Write-Right Nutrition Program Workshop Registration

The Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP) is DFOWW Incorporated’s flagship nutrition literacy education program.

WRNP combines structured, practical nutrition education with opportunities for family learning, community connection and, when resources are available, supplemental food assistance.

Our goal is to help individuals and families develop knowledge and practical skills they can continue using beyond a single workshop or food distribution.

Participants have opportunities to learn about:

– Nutrition literacy and healthy eating

– Meal planning

– Grocery budgeting

– Understanding and comparing nutrition labels

– Food safety

– Gardening and growing food

– Water and hydration

– Sleep and healthy living

– Physical activity and exercise

– Calories and energy balance

– Vitamins, minerals and cholesterol

– Practical strategies for making informed food choices

Our workshops are designed to be educational, practical, interactive and enjoyable for individuals and families.

Children under 18 may participate with a registered adult at no additional Program Participation Fee, giving parents, caregivers and children an opportunity to learn together.

An Important Distinction

The Write-Right Nutrition Program is not a food pantry or an emergency food pantry.

Individuals seeking only emergency groceries or traditional pantry services should contact an organization specifically providing those services. Participation in DFOWW Incorporated’s Write-Right Nutrition Program is centered on nutrition literacy education and engagement in our educational activities.

When donated food is available, supplemental food assistance may be incorporated into program activities to help participants put nutrition education into practice at home.

Supplemental food assistance is subject to availability, donor restrictions, organizational policies, food-safety requirements and program capacity.

The Program Participation Fee is not payment for donated food or essential items.

The food is supplemental. The education is the investment.

Program Participation Fees

DFOWW Incorporated is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Program Participation Fees help support the infrastructure necessary to provide our educational programming, including curriculum and educational activities, workshop materials and supplies, facility expenses, meals served during workshops, administration, insurance, program coordination, outreach and other expenses associated with carrying out the program.

Program Participation Fees may also help support the infrastructure associated with DFOWW Incorporated’s broader nutrition and food-recovery activities, including transportation, fuel, refrigeration, freezer capacity, food-safe storage and related operational needs.

Program Participation Fees are fees for participation in DFOWW Incorporated’s programming. They are not payments for donated food.

Low-Income Program Participation Rate

SNAP or TANF verification is required for the reduced low-income rate.

Eligible participants may select the applicable rate:

$25 per adult, per workshop

OR

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Write-Right Nutrition Program a Food Pantry?

No.

The Write-Right Nutrition Program is a nutrition literacy education program. It is not a traditional food pantry or emergency food pantry.

The program is designed to help participants build practical knowledge involving nutrition, healthy eating, grocery budgeting, meal planning, food labels, food safety, gardening and healthy living.

When donated food is available, supplemental food assistance may complement the educational program and give participants opportunities to put what they are learning into practice at home.

Individuals whose primary need is immediate emergency groceries or traditional pantry assistance should contact an organization specifically providing those services.

Why Does DFOWW Charge a Program Participation Fee?

DFOWW Incorporated is a nonprofit organization, but nonprofit programs still have operating expenses.

The Write-Right Nutrition Program requires resources to provide structured educational programming, including curriculum materials, workshop supplies, facilities, meals served during workshops, insurance, administration, program coordination and other operating expenses.

DFOWW Incorporated is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our leadership, officers and volunteers do not receive salaries or monetary compensation for carrying out this work.

Program Participation Fees help make our educational programming possible and sustainable.

A Program Participation Fee is not payment for donated food.

What Are the Workshop Program Participation Fees?

Low-Income Rate

For eligible participants currently receiving SNAP or TANF benefits:

$25 per adult, per workshop

Depending upon the program and activity, these expenses may include:

– Curriculum and educational materials

– Workshop supplies

– Facility expenses

– Meals provided during workshops

– Educational activities

– Program administration

– Insurance

– Outreach

– Volunteer coordination

– Transportation and food-recovery infrastructure

– Refrigeration and freezer capacity

– Food-safe storage and distribution supplies

– Equipment and other operational expenses

The Program Participation Fee does not purchase donated groceries or other donated goods.

Is Supplemental Food Guaranteed With Workshop Participation?

No.

Supplemental food assistance depends upon available donations, donor restrictions, food-safety requirements, organizational policies and program capacity.

DFOWW Incorporated cannot guarantee a particular type, quantity, brand or monetary value of food to any participant.

When food is available for program participants, it is intended to supplement and reinforce the nutrition education provided through the Write-Right Nutrition Program.

Why Combine Nutrition Education With Supplemental Food?

DFOWW Incorporated believes food access and nutrition education can complement one another.

Food can address an immediate household need.

Nutrition literacy can help individuals and families develop knowledge and practical skills involving food choices, grocery budgeting, meal planning, food safety, gardening and healthy living that may continue benefiting them long after a particular food distribution has ended.

That is why we say:

The food is supplemental. The education is the investment.

Can My Children Participate?

Yes.

Children under 17 may participate with a registered adult at no additional Program Participation Fee.

DFOWW Incorporated encourages family participation because nutrition habits, food choices, meal planning and healthy living often involve the entire household.

Our goal is to make workshops educational, interactive, practical and enjoyable for families.

What If I Cannot Afford the Program Participation Fee?

DFOWW Incorporated is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and does not have guaranteed funding available to subsidize, reduce or sponsor individual Program Participation Fees.

Applicants are responsible for arranging the applicable Program Participation Fee before requesting enrollment.

Individuals who need financial assistance with participation are encouraged to independently explore community resources, charitable organizations, sponsorship opportunities or other sources of assistance that may be available to them.

DFOWW Incorporated cannot guarantee that outside financial assistance or sponsorship will be available.

The reduced Low-Income Program Participation Rate is already available to eligible participants who meet the applicable SNAP or TANF verification requirements.

Program Participation Fees support the infrastructure necessary to provide DFOWW Incorporated’s educational programming and are not payments for donated food.

Does Paying the Program Participation Fee Guarantee Enrollment?

No.

Submitting a registration form and Program Participation Fee constitutes a request for enrollment.

Enrollment may be subject to eligibility verification, required documentation, organizational policies and available workshop capacity.

Please review the applicable registration, cancellation, refund and transfer policies before submitting payment.

Why Can Application Processing Take Time?

Some enrollment requests may require eligibility verification, documentation review and confirmation of available program capacity or funding.

Processing times may therefore vary.

DFOWW Incorporated will communicate with applicants regarding their enrollment request.

Supplemental Food Assistance Outside the Workshop Pathway

DFOWW Incorporated recognizes that some community members may not be seeking enrollment in the complete Write-Right Nutrition Program workshop pathway.

When resources and organizational capacity permit, DFOWW may make limited supplemental food assistance available through its Community Assistance Pathway.

This pathway is separate from enrollment in the Write-Right Nutrition Program workshops.

Community Assistance Pathway

Participation is subject to:

– Available donated food

– Donor restrictions

– Organizational policies and procedures

– Food-safety requirements

– Available volunteers

– Distribution capacity

– Applicable eligibility or participation requirements

When DFOWW Incorporated establishes a $20 Program Participation Fee per household for a Community Assistance Pathway distribution, that fee supports the charitable infrastructure and operational activities necessary to provide the program.

The Program Participation Fee is not payment for donated food.

Donated food is provided to DFOWW Incorporated without charge; however, recovering and responsibly distributing food involves substantial operating expenses.

Those expenses can include:

– Fuel

– Transportation

– Vehicle expenses

– Refrigeration

– Freezer capacity

– Food-safe storage

– Equipment

– Insurance

– Food-safety supplies

– Distribution supplies

– Volunteer coordination

– Administration

– Community outreach

DFOWW Incorporated receives no guaranteed government funding to cover these activities.

Program Participation Fees, charitable contributions, sponsorships, grants, volunteer service, in-kind donations and community partnerships collectively help DFOWW Incorporated sustain its charitable programs.

Can I Pay $20 and Receive Food Instead of Attending a Workshop?

The Community Assistance Pathway and the Write-Right Nutrition Program workshop pathway are separate participation opportunities.

The $20 Community Assistance Pathway Program Participation Fee is not a purchase price for food and does not entitle a participant to a particular quantity, type, brand or monetary value of donated food.

Participation and any supplemental food assistance remain subject to the specific distribution opportunity, available donated resources, donor restrictions, DFOWW Incorporated policies, food-safety requirements and organizational capacity.

Individuals interested in long-term nutrition literacy education, family learning and the broader benefits of the Write-Right Nutrition Program are encouraged to enroll in the workshop pathway.

Why Should I Consider the Workshops Instead of Only Supplemental Food Assistance?

The workshop pathway is designed to provide something that lasts beyond a single food distribution.

Participants have opportunities to develop:

Nutrition knowledge

Practical grocery-budgeting skills

Meal-planning skills

Greater understanding of food labels

Food-safety knowledge

Gardening knowledge

Healthy-living strategies

Family learning experiences

Community connections and networking

And, when resources are available, supplemental nutritious food can help participants apply what they are learning at home.

A food distribution can help today.

Knowledge and practical skills can continue helping your household tomorrow.

DFOWW Incorporated may provide the complete Media Release & Photography Policy and release form electronically by email before a participant’s scheduled workshop, program or event.

Participants must review and complete any required Media Release documentation before participating.

For participants under 18 years of age, the child’s parent or legal guardian must complete any required authorization on the child’s behalf.

Submitting a registration form does not replace any separate Media Release documentation that DFOWW Incorporated may require.

Applicants who do not wish to accept the Media Release & Photography Policy should not submit a registration request for activities in which media consent is a required condition of participation.
