Write-Right Nutrition Program Workshop Registration

Program Overview

The Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP) is DFOWW Incorporated’s flagship nutrition education initiative. The program combines evidence-informed nutrition literacy education with supplemental food assistance to help individuals and families build healthier eating habits, improve food security, and make informed nutrition decisions.

Participation & Payment Information

To request enrollment in the Write-Right Nutrition Program, please complete the steps below.

Step 1: Submit Participation Investment

WRNP is a low-cost, education-based program. Participation investments help offset direct program expenses including curriculum materials, workshop supplies, facility space, meals served during workshops, administrative processing, insurance, and compliance reporting.

Low-Income Rate

• $25 per adult — each workshop

• $40 flat household rate for low-income families with children — each workshop

• Children under age 18 participate and eat FREE

To qualify for the low-income rate, the adult participant must currently receive SNAP or TANF benefits. Verification documentation is required prior to approval.

Standard Community Rate

• $75 per adult — each workshop

Adults who do not receive SNAP or TANF benefits may participate at the standard rate of $75 per adult. The program remains free for all children attending with a registered adult.

Payments may be submitted through:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why Does DFOWW Request a Program Support Contribution?

Donated food is free, but recovering it is not.

DFOWW pays for transportation, refrigeration, freezer space, storage, insurance, equipment, volunteer coordination, and administrative costs. DFOWW receives no guaranteed government funding for these services.

The suggested $20 Program Support Contribution helps sustain the nonprofit’s charitable operations and allows DFOWW to recover more food and serve more families. The contribution supports operations and is not a payment for donated food.

Why does DFOWW suggest a $20 Program Support Contribution for supplemental food distributions?

Write-Right Nutrition Program (Primary Program)

Six nutrition education workshops.

Program registration.

Workshop participation.

Supplemental food distributions for eligible participants as resources allow.

Designed to improve long-term nutrition knowledge and food security.

Community Food Recovery Program (Supplemental Distribution)

One of the most common misconceptions about nonprofit food recovery programs is that because donated food is received at no cost, it is also free to recover and distribute. In reality, every food recovery requires fuel, transportation, refrigeration, freezer space, storage, insurance, equipment, volunteer coordination, food safety supplies, and many hours of dedicated service.

DFOWW Incorporated suggest a $20 Program Support Contribution per household to help sustain our charitable food recovery operations and education-based food security programs. These voluntary contributions directly support transportation, food recovery, refrigeration, storage, nutrition education, volunteer coordination, and community outreach throughout Georgia.

While the donated food itself is provided to DFOWW Incorporated at no cost, recovering, transporting, refrigerating, safely storing, organizing, and distributing these donations involves significant operational expenses. DFOWW Incorporated is a small, volunteer-operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that receives no guaranteed government funding for these services. Every Program Support Contribution, charitable donation, sponsorship, volunteer hour, and community partnership helps us recover more nutritious food, reduce food waste, strengthen our nutrition education initiatives, and serve more families throughout Georgia.

Why is there a participation fee if DFOWW is a nonprofit?

Nonprofit status does not eliminate operational costs. WRNP includes structured curriculum, materials, facility usage, meals, staffing, insurance, and compliance reporting. Participation investments ensure program sustainability and quality.

What is the participation cost?

• $25 per low-income adult — each workshop
• $40 flat household rate for low-income families with children — each workshop
• $75 per adult (standard rate) — each workshop
• Free for all children under age 17

Can I receive food without attending a workshop?

Yes. DFOWW Incorporated offers two separate food assistance opportunities.

Option 1: Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP)

The Write-Right Nutrition Program combines nutrition literacy education with supplemental food assistance. Participants who successfully enroll, attend all required workshops, and remain in good standing under program policies may qualify to receive supplemental food distributions at no additional cost, subject to food availability, donor restrictions, organizational policies, and available program capacity.

Option 2: Community Food Recovery Program (Supplemental Food Distribution)

Individuals and families who choose not to enroll in the Write-Right Nutrition Program may still request participation in DFOWW Incorporated’s Community Food Recovery Program.

To help sustain this charitable service, DFOWW suggested Program Support Contribution of $20 per household. These contributions help offset the actual costs associated with recovering, transporting, refrigerating, safely storing, organizing, and distributing donated food throughout Georgia.

Why is a Program Support Contribution requested?

One of the most common misconceptions about nonprofit food recovery is that because the food is donated, there are no costs associated with providing it to families. While the food itself is donated, recovering and distributing it requires significant operational resources.

Every food recovery involves expenses for fuel, transportation, vehicle maintenance, refrigeration, freezer space, storage equipment, insurance, food safety supplies, volunteer coordination, and many hours of dedicated service.

DFOWW Incorporated is a volunteer-operated 501(c)(3) charitable organization that receives no guaranteed government funding to support these operations. Suggested Program Support Contributions, charitable donations, sponsorships, volunteer service, and community partnerships help us recover more nutritious food, reduce food waste, expand nutrition education, and serve more low-income individuals and families throughout Georgia.

The suggested Program Support Contribution is not payment for donated food. Contributions support DFOWW Incorporated’s charitable mission and the operational costs necessary to recover and distribute food safely and effectively.

What if I cannot afford the participation fee?

Applicants experiencing financial hardship may contact the organization. Fee adjustments or waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis depending on available funding and program capacity.

Why could approval take up to 45 days?

Applications require eligibility verification, documentation review, and funding confirmation. Due to limited resources, processing time may vary.

Participation in the Community Food Recovery Program is subject to:

  • Available donated food
  • Donor restrictions
  • Organizational policies and procedures
  • Food safety requirements
  • Available volunteers and distribution capacity
