Nutrition Literacy: Building Health Through Knowledge
At DFOWW Incorporated, we believe that education is the foundation of long-term wellness. Participating in nutrition literacy education workshops equips individuals and families with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make informed, healthy food choices—especially in a world where processed foods and misinformation are widespread.
Our workshops are designed to bridge the gap between awareness and action. Participants learn practical strategies for:
- Meal planning on a budget
- Understanding nutrition labels
- Preparing balanced, healthy meals
- Making sustainable lifestyle changes
This combination of education + nutrition = empowerment supports improved long-term health outcomes and helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
May is Stroke Awareness Month
May is recognized nationally as Stroke Awareness Month—a time to educate our communities on how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke and the importance of acting quickly. A stroke is a medical emergency. Immediate action can save lives and significantly reduce long-term disability.
Recognize the Signs: B.E. F.A.S.T.
- B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance, dizziness, or coordination
- E – Eyes: Sudden vision changes such as blurring or loss of vision
- F – Face Drooping: One side of the face droops or feels numb
- A – Arm Weakness: Weakness or numbness in one arm or leg
- S – Speech Difficulty: Slurred speech or difficulty understanding
- T – Time to Call 911 immediately—even if symptoms go away
Why Immediate Action Matters
Medical experts often say ‘time is brain.’ During a stroke, blood flow to the brain is interrupted, causing brain cells to die rapidly—up to 1.9 million neurons per minute. Prompt medical attention can reduce brain damage, improve recovery outcomes, and save lives.
Our Commitment to Community Health
Through the Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP), DFOWW Incorporated remains committed to not only addressing immediate food needs but also providing life-changing education that empowers individuals and families to take control of their health.
