As we begin the month of August, we recognize several important national observances that celebrate our communities, promote healthy living, and encourage positive change.
National Black Business Month
August is National Black Business Month, established in 2004 by historian John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan Sr. It recognizes the important contributions Black-owned businesses make to communities throughout the United States.
Black-owned businesses create jobs, strengthen local economies, provide valuable products and services, and help build generational wealth. Throughout August, we encourage everyone to support Black-owned businesses by shopping locally, sharing their businesses with others, and promoting economic opportunity.
We also recognize the many, Black-led nonprofit organizations that strengthen communities through education, healthcare, housing, food security, youth development, entrepreneurship, and other charitable services.
National Immunization Awareness Month
August is also National Immunization Awareness Month, a time to remind people of all ages about the importance of staying up to date on recommended vaccinations. With the back-to-school season approaching, families are encouraged to schedule annual wellness visits, school physicals, and discuss recommended vaccinations with their healthcare providers.
Always consult your healthcare provider regarding vaccinations that may be appropriate for you and your family. At DFOWW Incorporated, we believe stronger communities are built through education, healthy living, economic opportunity, and neighbors working together to support one another. Write-Right Entrepreneurship Program (WREP)
The Write-Right Entrepreneurship Program (WREP) supports aspiring entrepreneurs, nonprofit founders, churches, community leaders, and youth throughout Georgia through educational workshops, mentorship, and practical instruction.
Our program helps participants develop the knowledge and skills needed to establish and sustain legally compliant nonprofit organizations and small businesses while encouraging innovation, leadership, self-reliance, and long-term community impact.

Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP)
The Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP) is an education-based food security program that combines nutrition education, food recovery, and community partnerships to help individuals and families build long-term food security.
Supplemental donated food and essential household items may be available to eligible participants based on donation availability, program guidelines, organizational capacity, and program priorities.
DFOWW Incorporated is not a food bank or an emergency food pantry.
Our mission extends beyond providing supplemental donated food. We help individuals and families build long-term food security through nutrition education, healthy living, grocery budgeting, gardening, food safety education, and other educational opportunities that promote healthier lifestyles, self-reliance, and long-term food security.
Participants enrolled in the Educational Workshop Participation Pathway complete six (6) in-person educational workshops (24 instructional hours) covering:
Nutrition
Healthy eating
Meal planning
Grocery budgeting
Gardening
Food safety
Healthy living
Participants who successfully complete all six workshops receive a Certificate of Completion. Children under the age of 18 may participate free when accompanied by a registered adult participant.
Two Ways to Participate
Educational Workshop Participation Pathway
Individuals and families may register to participate in DFOWW Incorporated’s nutrition literacy workshops.
Program Participation Fees for this pathway help support educational materials, workshop supplies, facility expenses, insurance, program coordination, participant resources, meals when provided, and other operating expenses necessary to administer the Write-Right Nutrition Program.
Participants enrolled in the Educational Workshop Participation Pathway may also be eligible to receive supplemental donated food and essential household items based on donation availability, program guidelines, organizational capacity, and program priorities.
Community Assistance Participation Pathway
Individuals and families who are not participating in a workshop may contact DFOWW Incorporated to learn about available community assistance opportunities offered through the Write-Right Nutrition Program.
Participation through this pathway depends on available donations, volunteer capacity, funding, organizational resources, program guidelines, and program priorities. Individuals and families who choose to participate through the Community Assistance Participation Pathway are required to pay the applicable Program Participation Fee.
Program Participation Fees help support the operation and sustainability of the Write-Right Nutrition Program and are required for participation through this pathway. Program Participation Fees are not payments for donated food or donated essential items.
Current Community Assistance Program Participation Fees
When donated meat is available
A $20 Program Participation Fee applies to participation through the Community Assistance Participation Pathway when a meat distribution opportunity is offered. Eligible participants may receive up to three (3) packages of donated meat, depending on donation availability, program guidelines, organizational capacity, and program priorities.
When donated bread and pastries are available
A $2 Program Participation Fee applies to participation through the Community Assistance Participation Pathway when a bakery distribution opportunity is offered. Eligible participants may receive any combination of up to four (4) donated bakery items, depending on donation availability, program guidelines, organizational capacity, and program priorities.
Program Transparency
DFOWW Incorporated is committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of charitable resources. DFOWW Incorporated does not sell donated food or donated essential items.
The food and essential items distributed through the Write-Right Nutrition Program are generously donated by our community partners at no cost to our nonprofit organization.
No portion of a Program Participation Fee is allocated as payment for donated food or donated essential items.
Program Participation Fees are not payments for donated food or donated essential items. Rather, they are required program fees that help support the operation and sustainability of the Write-Right Nutrition Program, including food recovery, transportation, refrigeration, freezer storage, food-safe handling, equipment, insurance, educational programming, volunteer coordination, community outreach, and other operating expenses.
