Beyond Food Distribution: Building Lasting Health in Georgia

In Georgia, nearly one in five children experiences food insecurity. While food banks and emergency distributions play an essential role in addressing immediate hunger, long-term community health requires more than short-term relief.

At DFOWW Incorporated, we believe food access is the first step — not the final solution. True self-sufficiency requires both access to nutritious food and the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions.

Why Nutrition Literacy Matters

Research demonstrates that when parents and caregivers improve their nutrition literacy, children’s eating habits improve as well. Families who understand how to stretch food dollars, interpret food labels, plan balanced meals, reduce sodium and added sugars, and prepare whole foods in affordable ways are better positioned to protect their long-term health.

Without nutrition education, households under financial strain may rely heavily on low-cost, highly processed foods, increasing the risk of obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Food assistance addresses hunger. Nutrition literacy addresses health. Both are necessary.

How the Write-Right Nutrition Program Makes the Difference

The Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP) transforms temporary food assistance into sustainable health empowerment. Through six in-person workshops totaling 24 hours of structured curriculum, families gain practical skills in budgeting, meal planning, healthy cooking techniques, and building lifelong habits.

Our objective is not only to provide food for today, but to equip families with tools that strengthen households for the future.

Misuse of program resources may result in corrective action including warnings, restrictions, suspension, or removal from participation.
