January 2026 Monthly Schedule

January is Birth Defects Awareness Month

January is recognized as Birth Defects Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of prevention, early intervention, and education. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies a wide range of birth defects, including congenital heart defects, neural tube defects such as spina bifida, cleft lip and palate, Down syndrome, and limb or organ differences.

The CDC emphasizes prevention strategies such as early and consistent prenatal care, adequate folic acid intake, and avoiding harmful substances during pregnancy. Educational resources are also available for specific conditions, including gastroschisis and diaphragmatic hernia.

DFOWW Incorporated partners with community organizations to provide free, nutritious food to families and individuals through the Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP). To ensure safe, fair, and orderly distributions, the following guidelines apply:

  1. Distribution Details

Participants are asked to arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

All distributions take place indoors to ensure food safety.

  1. Participant Registration

All participants must either sign in on-site or register online for WRNP:

Registration supports program accountability, donor reporting, and service equity.

  1. Food Distribution Policies

Distribution Limits:

Single/Individual households: 2 breads, 2 pastries

Families with children: 4 breads, 4 pastries

Additional items (fruits, vegetables, personal care products) are distributed based on availability.

DFOWW staff will communicate limits respectfully and enforce them consistently.

Program misuse—including excessive taking, resale, or disruptive behavior—may result in corrective action.

Families with children under age 17

Legal guardians or primary caretakers of children under 17

Individuals fully enrolled in WRNP
