Self-Sufficiency Programs and Services

December 2025 Schedule

December is recognized as HIV/AIDS Awareness Month and includes World AIDS Day on December 1st. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) supports this observance to remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses and to renew efforts in preventing new infections, improving treatment, and eliminating stigma.

Commemoration: The month serves as a time to reflect on the progress made in fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic and to address ongoing challenges.

Awareness: It is an opportunity to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, the importance of prevention, and the need for ongoing support and treatment.

Commitment: Organizations like the CDC use this month to highlight their work and encourage collective action to end the epidemic.

WRNP Eligibility Requirements (Outside of Government Shutdowns or Natural Disasters)

To qualify for free food and grocery assistance through the Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP), applicants must meet the following:

Basic Eligibility: Must be enrolled in the WRNP, must attend an in-person nutrition literacy workshop prior to receiving assistance, must currently receive SNAP or TANF benefits, must present a valid government-issued photo ID at pickup, must provide proof of benefits via an official award or acknowledgment letter.

Application Process

Applying does not guarantee acceptance. All applicants must complete an interview and verification process. Please allow at least 45 days for application processing. Acceptance is based on eligibility, available funding, and program suitability.

Review Factors Include: Income level, Household size, Dietary or health needs, Geographic location and food access, Existing nutrition knowledge, Workshop participation willingness and potential for long-term behavior change.

Policy on Program Abuse & Misuse (Free Food Distribution) Purpose:

This policy is designed to protect the integrity of DFOWW Incorporated’s Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP) and ensure that scarce food resources are prioritized for low-income families with children and youth who experience food insecurity.

Program Priorities:

Because WRNP is a hunger-relief and nutrition literacy education program focused on improving food access for children and their caretakers, we prioritize food distributions for:

Families with children under age 17

Legal guardians or primary caretakers of children under age 17

Individuals fully enrolled in the WRNP who have met all eligibility and workshop requirements

Households who receive SNAP or TANF and provide proof of identity and benefits

Examples of Program Abuse or Misuse:

The following behaviors qualify as misuse of DFOWW’s free food distributions:

Taking excessive quantities of food beyond what is permitted

Stealing program food items

Repeatedly attempting to bypass fairness procedures

Selling or attempting to sell food obtained through DFOWW programs

Harassment, disruptive behavior, or actions that interfere with fair distribution to families

Corrective Actions: DFOWW Incorporated reserves the right to take corrective action when program abuse is observed or documented. Corrective actions may include:

1. Verbal warning

2. Written warning

3. Limiting the quantity of food an individual may receive

4. Suspension from food distributions

5. Temporary or permanent banning from DFOWW programs (rare and only when necessary)

In cases where an individual is taking more food than permitted or engaging in suspected resale of donated items—especially when these actions reduce food availability for children and families— DFOWW may restrict that individual to one pre-prepared bag of donated food per distribution. This measure may be used even if the individual is not banned. Restrictions will be communicated respectfully and enforced consistently.

Goal: The purpose of corrective action is not punitive but to ensure that children, youth, and eligible families remain the primary beneficiaries of limited food resources.

Transportation Notice:

DFOWW does not provide transportation or delivery services. Participants must arrange their own transportation to workshops and food distribution sites. For eligibility updates, visit the Announcements section of our website or contact us directly.

Community Announcement: Our Nonprofit Van Needs Repairs

The Write-Right Nutrition Program (WRNP)

WRNP addresses food insecurity in low-income communities, particularly among families with children. Participants receive nutrition education and a complimentary healthy meal during each workshop. The program includes six in-person workshops (24 total hours). Graduates who complete all sessions receive a certificate of completion. The program is free for children under 17. WRNP not only provides food but also empowers families to make informed, sustainable nutrition choices.

The Write-Right Entrepreneurship Program (WREP)

The WREP guides aspiring entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders through the process of establishing and sustaining a nonprofit organization in Georgia. It also offers mentorship for youth interested in entrepreneurship, helping participants gain the skills and confidence needed to create lasting community impact through innovation and self-reliance.
