Word Game
Adjectives describe or modify—that is, clarify or limit the meaning of—nouns and pronouns to make them more specific.
Examples
• The red dress
red = adjective being used to describe a dress
dress = noun
Another Example
• She is beautiful
beautiful = adjective being used to modify the pronoun
she = pronoun
Directions:
1. Select the adjective word group.
2. It’s extremely important that you know how to correctly pronounce a word. If you see a word that you don’t know how to pronounce, google the word. Usually, there will be a megaphone next to the word googled. Click on the megaphone to listen to the correct pronunciation of a word.
3. Use Google or a dictionary to learn each of the adjective word definitions.
4. Write two simple sentences for each of the three adjectives listed.
Example
A. enable • elucidated • emphasize
B. echelon • entrepreneur • estrangement
C. effectively • exponentially • extremely
D. egregious • esoteric • enamored
Here is an example of how your answer should be written:
Correct Answer
D
1. The alleged sexual misconduct committed by many Catholic priests against young children is unconscionable and egregious.
2. The defendant was found guilty of all the egregious crimes he committed.
3. Intersex medical conditions are idiosyncratic but not esoteric.
4. Jennifer replied, “The Holy Bible is not an esoteric book just for Christians; rather, its wisdom can benefit everyone.”
5. Jessica was enamored by the principled, prepossessing fitness trainer.
6. Enamored by her sincerity and physical beauty, Jason was speechless.
Now it’s time to play the game.
Game 1
Directions:
