Word Game

One of the ways we build vocabulary is by word association. The goal of this word association game, is to help our participants make connections between words.

Synonym = a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language.

Directions:

1. Select the group of words that are synonyms of the subject word listed below. For this game, participants are encouraged to use google and or the dictionary to ascertain unfamiliar word definitions.

2. If you ever come across a word that you don’t know how to pronounce, google the word. Usually, there will be a blue or black colored megaphone next to the word googled. Click on the megaphone to listen to the correct pronunciation of the word.

3. Select two new words, that you have learned from this game and write two sentences correctly using the word. Please post your answers in the leave a reply section below.

Example

Criminal (subject word)

A. unethical | dishonorable | disgraceful

B. lawless | illicit | felonious

C.  principled | noble | virtuous

D.  pusillanimous | cowardly | craven

Here is an example of how your answer should be written in the leave a reply section below:

Correct Answer

B

1. felonious

2. pusillanimous

• Seth’s continued felonious conduct, resulted in his removal from the board of directors.

• The felonious jewelry thief was sentenced to serve ten years in prison.

• Despite hearing gunshots being fired from the school’s cafeteria; the pusillanimous security officer ran out of the school.

• Phillip recieved harsh criticism from his neighbors for behaving pusillanimously, and not protecting his wife during the home invasion.

Cogent

A. cognitive | awareness | perception

B.  urgent | contingent | astringent

C. eristic | litigious | controversial

D.  compelling | convincing | conclusive

Farcical

A. false | inaccurate | spurious

B. facial | features | countenance

C. ludicrous | preposterous | cockamamie

D. veracious | authentic | accurate
